The Glenlivet Captain’s Reserve
This dram is so new that, at the time of writing, it’s not on the collection page of The Glenlivet website! Again, thanks to the fine folks at The Pot Still for having the contacts and getting this down from the Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival to Glasgow!
The Glenlivet Captains Reserve is finished in cognac casks at 40%. Glenlivet claim this is the first single malt to be finished in cognac casks, however, a quick Internet search shows Deanston brought out an 18yo single malt that was finished in cognac casks for 6 years! That said, we believe that this is an outside-the-box approach from Glenlivet that, in our opinion, does not disappoint. It’s a combination of sweet and citrus notes that are delightful while keeping with the smooth, mellow whisky it’s fans know and love. This dram is very Glenlivet-esque!
